The story of one of the most pivotal moments in civil rights history, the first Sit-In Movement at Woolworth’s lunch counter in Greensboro, North Carolina.
On February 1st, 1960, David Richmond, Franklin McCain, Ezell Blair Jr., and Joseph McNeil, young students of the local HBCU NC A&T State University, took seats at the lunch counter in downtown Woolworth in Greensboro, NC. After Woolworth staff refused them service, these ambitious and strategic young activists, now known as the Greensboro 4, rallied support from students, faculty, family, friends, and the local and national civil rights community to initiate the first ever sit-in movement.
